There are beers, which are famous because of the name of their brewery or their tradition during the centuries that is hidden inside them. There are also beers that might catch our attention because of an advertising trick or a strategy they followed. The following beer, though it belongs to another, special category. This beer has the name of a great commander of ancient times, who is mentioned and studied for centuries, exemplar for many conquerors, that we know though history.
Alexander the Great is the strategist from Macedonia, who conquered the entire known world of his time, expanding the geographical course of many fields, geographers and cartographers, reaching India, shortly before encountering another great civilization of the time, the Chinese. His greatness and brightness, his knowledge and his choices made him a unique character. A character that a brewer wants to “transfer” to his homonymous beer.
Alexander the Great is a beer brewed inGreece and as aScotch Ale. The fans of the historical legends and rumors could link the selection of this type of beer, with stories that the Scots are descendants of the Macedonians, under Mac (Mc) which their names begin.
Whenyou serve the beer into the glass, it gives you medium duration foam, with lots of bubbles, mainly small ones. Its color is white with beige shades and it’s slightly creamy.
About the beer aromas, it offers us a sweet nice smell. Refers to spoon sweet (jam), something between grape and sour orange. In the beer you can also recognize aromas of caramel and butter. The aromas that you discover reminds of fruit liqueurs and a little of butterscotch.
When we look the beer through the glass we notice some residues. Traces of a row material, although beer is not blurry, the beer is transparent, so that means it has been filtered. The color of the beer is considered as amber. The body is light, without carbonate appearance.
In the mouth, the beer offers the consumer a slight bitterness, itdries the mouth and fits with the aromatic characteristics. Butter and a bit of caramel, barley malt and yeast and maybe some citrus like orange (or sour orange mentioned above) are felt. This beer doesn’t have any aftertaste. If something is left that is dryness. You could say that the flavor reminds, as before butterscotch or a simple whiskey, smoked without any aromas or vanilla. Estimating the degree of alcohol we would say that it is a classic beer between 5.5% and 6% abv, with the second option being a hit.
Alexander The Great is been produced in Zeos brewery in Agolida, on behalf of Unibräu. It’s launched in a 330ml bottle and you can find it in chosen spots. You can definitely find it in BeerCorner in Cholargos.
