Monday March 10 was a day filled with delight, flavor, and lots of beer. At the BeerBartender Awards, which were held at the Beer Academy Home, in Kessariani, the beer industry got the message that Greek consumers show more interest in beer today than in previous years. The number of entries for the tastings, that began around noon and kept the participants warm until late in the evening, was a proof. Summer beers such as Radler, Belgian and Greek beers, as well as many Mediterranean beers from independent microbreweries filled the glasses of the participants during the tastings and until the Top BeerBartender 2013 competition begun.
The bartenders participated in a new type of competition, since they were judged not only on how they served the beer, to the customers-judges, but how well they handled a hypothetical situation according to the contest rules. At the same time the judges were talking with them, just as customers would at a bar, while working, in order to determine the depth of their knowledge regarding beer. An alternative and educational competition in which Kostantinos Frangos from the Beer Academy Home was the first place winner, Giannis Sidiropoulos, from Sofiter Hotel Airport came in second and third place was awarded to Konstantinos Dritsas from Club Hotel Casino Loutraki. The winners will have the opportunity to attend a comprehensive seminar on beer, which duration is one month, in order to further expand their knowledge.
The evening concluded with the announcement of the winners in the four categories of the electronic voting. Septem Microbrewry was proclaimed Best Greek microbrewery, while the award for best importing company was given to Deals SA. The awards from two categories were won by Delphi beer of the ELIXI Company. Delphi was awarded best newcomer and best beer packaging (label) for 2013.
BeerBartender Awards was honored by the presence of many distinguished individuals from the beer industry and consumers who are seeking the opportunity to experience to know new products and come in contact with the creators, producers and importers of their favorite beers. The appointment was renewed for next year, for even more testings, joy and beer!
