Noon in my cocktail bar, at Barden in Acharavi beach. It’s preparation time. Through my mind comes the idea of creating a beer cocktail! Which beer though should I use? I’m from Corfu, so I’ll use Corfu beer. Local and quality product, what a challenge! Making a cocktail and closing inside all the freshness of unpasteurized, unfiltered beer..! I am having a quick look around my bar I would really like to use whisky in my recipe but which one? While I am having a second look my eye catches the Black Grouse! I will also add levanter syrup by MONIN, as I am crazy about flower aromas it will balance with fresh lemon juice last I am adding Corfu Real Ale Special.. Fruit aromas from my beer will suit the strawberry puree. Finishing I garnishing with peeled lemon, orange and a couple of basil leaves, there are plenty outside. I haven’t tried it yet and my mate Dimitris, comes into the bar. “Hey mate come and taste”, I care about his opinion. “It’s awesome” he says.
Black & Red
40ml Black Grouse
20ml levanter syrup by Monin
30ml fresh lemon juice
30ml strawberry puree
50ml (approximately) Corfu Real Ale Special
peeled lemon and orange
2 leaves of basilica
I am freezing my glass. I am taking the mixing glass and I am add the whisky, the strawberry puree, the fresh lemon juice and the levanter syrup. I am feeling the shaker with ice and shake!
Emptying the ice that I put in order to cold the glass, I’m adding new, double strain, and I top up with beer and grated ice. Garnish and its ready.
