At the moment India Pale Ales are the latest trend. So it goes without saying that Greece has its own IPA. It has been in the market for less than a year and Voreia IPA has gained fans not only in Athens but throughout Greece.
Voreia IPA, is the second beer for the Siris Microbrewery. Both are distinguished by their “deep cut” neckline that the letter “V” forms on their label. A rather distinct label, for Greek standards, for a unique beer.
Voreia IPA made its appearance in the Greek market in 2014. When it’s poured in the glass we notice a white to light cream colored foam with medium retention. Not too dense. Forming a considerable amount of large bubbles in the glass.
When looking at the glass we see many small bubbles “running” to the surface. It has an amber colored body, which is transparent and is without residue. The foam lingers on the glass.
Voreia offers aromas such as malt, cedar, caramel as well as a hint of floral (not a garden). I perceived notes of honey but conifers have a strong presence as well.
On first impression the taste of Voreia IPA is somewhere between sweet and bitter. It starts sweet and finishes bitter, it feels dry, with a medium body. Minimum caramel and raisins. Citrus and biscuit flavors with the fruity characteristics related to the citrus. My suggestion is to allow it to warm up a bit. Do not try it too cold and definitely not “ice cold”. The caramel, biscuit and raisin are the aftertastes that lingered longer. Dry and moderately bitter.
I would have liked for Voreia IPA to be bitterer. If one wants to begin to know the characteristics of IPAs , I believe that Voreia is a nice one in this category to start with. It’s an India Pale Ale that one can drink a second and a third. Voreia IPA has a 7% alcohol and it is suggested by the brewery to be served at 8οC. I tried it from a 330ml bottle and I was left with a good impression.
