Billed as the perfect antidote to the post-Christmas blues, the event includes up to 300 beers and ciders from microbreweries across the UK, as well as continental beers, wines and the popular Liverpool Gin.
The Winter Ales Festival runs across five sessions in three days from Thursday 22 January to Saturday 24 January and is sponsored by Isle of Man brewery Okells, which owns a number of pubs in the city.
Organisers say tickets have already proven very popular, with thousands purchased as gifts prior to Christmas, and a bumper crowd is expected to attend.
Mark Hensby, managing director of Liverpool Organic Brewery, which has organised the festival, said: “Father Christmas may be a distant memory, but the true spirit of Christmas (gifts and alcohol) inspired our decision to host our first ever Winter Ales Festival.
“January is cold and bitter enough without adding to the misery by trying to deny oneself the finer things in life. It’s a time to feed the soul and what better way than to enjoy hundreds of real ales and ciders from some of the UK’s finest microbreweries in the splendour of St George’s Hall?
“We’re sure the inaugural Winter Ales Festival will provide ale veterans and novices alike with something special to soothe even the dryest of January palates.”
